The dreamy deep blue surface of Neptune is one of the most far-flung and fathomless worlds in our solar system. Weaving back and forth with Pluto, Neptune is a watery gatekeeper from our solar system to the vast beyond of the unexplored universe. Neptune was discovered through mathematics in 1846, due to irregularities that its gravitational pull was causing in the orbit of Uranus. It is one of our solar system's least explored planets. There has only been one voyage to Neptune. In 1989, Voyager 2 visited, capturing the beautiful photograph above. And since then, we haven't been back. This single encounter unearthed a shockingly dynamic planet with dynamic weather, including strong, powerful winds. Neptune's Great Dark Spot, a storm spanning thousands of miles, seemingly cleared up just five years later. Patterns repeat throughout the universe, so how does Neptune's place in the solar system play out within us?
